Spot de Kastraki / Naxos

Kastraki / Naxos kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot

Overview

Kastraki is a long white sand beach on the west coast of Naxos, just south of Mikri Vigla. This less crowded beach compared to its neighbor offers a wilder and quieter setting. The N/NNE Meltemi arrives side-shore on this west-facing coast, with enough strength for kiting. Kastraki is popular with intermediate riders seeking more space and less crowds than Mikri Vigla, while staying close to the main spot. The beach is stunning with white sand and dunes.

Required level

Intermediate

On the water

Crystal clear Cycladic waters, 22-26°C. Lycra or shorty. White sandy bottom. Moderate to strong chop in Meltemi. Weak to moderate current along the coast toward the south.

Parking

Roadside parking along Kastraki beach. Access from the coastal road. Less parking pressure than at Mikri Vigla. A few tavernas nearby.

Wind specificities

N/NNE Meltemi side-shore on the west coast. Same wind conditions as Mikri Vigla — 18-25 knots channeled between Paros and Naxos. Slightly less sheltered than Mikri Vigla's north beach, so wind can be more side-offshore at times. Classic cycle: building at noon, peaking in afternoon. Season June to September.

Hazards

Side-shore to side-offshore wind at times — requires upwind riding ability. Meltemi can reach 25+ knots. Current along the coast. Some swimmers. Strong sun exposure. Less supervised than Mikri Vigla.
