Murthy Surf School

Murthy Surf School is a surf school in the village of Kovalam, south of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Murthy Megavan, a fisherman by upbringing, met Surfing Swami on Kovalam beach in 2001 and began teaching surfing to village boys from 2002. He co-founded a first surf school in 2012, then created Murthy Surf School in 2021. The instructors are young people from the village's fishing families.

The school offers surf lessons (introduction, beginner, intermediate, advanced), multi-day courses, equipment rental for self-practice, and kayaking and stand-up paddle classes. Lessons include full equipment, safety briefing, showers and toilets.

The school building, inaugurated in 2021, has a relaxation hall, a tea and breakfast counter, an office and showers. A homestay is also available.
