On the water
Lake Huron water body at its southern end. North to northeast winds generate significant waves thanks to the fetch across the entire lake. Notable southward current pulled by the lake's drainage into the St. Clair River. Cold water requiring full wetsuit except in midsummer. Conditions can become very rough quickly in sustained north winds.
Hazards
Strong current toward the St. Clair River that can carry riders southward. Intense commercial shipping — freighters and bulk carriers transiting between the Great Lakes. Cold Lake Huron water with hypothermia risk. Powerful waves in north winds with over 200 km of fetch. Heavy recreational boat traffic in summer. Violent thunderstorms possible with lightning risk. Do not approach the commercial shipping channel.
