On the water
Lake St. Clair water body, very shallow (average depth of 3 meters). Waves remain short and choppy even in strong winds due to the shallow depth. Water warms quickly in summer, allowing riding in a shorty from June to September. Sandy and muddy bottom. The lake offers a vast riding area despite its shallow depth.
Hazards
Very shallow lake — risk of hitting the bottom during falls. Very heavy boat traffic in summer — Lake St. Clair is one of Michigan's busiest water bodies. Commercial shipping channel crossing the lake — never cross it. Violent thunderstorms possible with lightning risk. Water can be turbid with reduced visibility. Current from the St. Clair River in the northern part of the lake.
