On the water

Transition zone between Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. Southward current is powerful and constant. North to northeast winds generate significant waves that combine with the current, creating complex and technical conditions. Cold water requiring full wetsuit except in midsummer. Conditions change quickly between the lake zone (waves) and the river zone (flat current).

Hazards

Very powerful current toward the St. Clair River — risk of being swept downstream quickly. Intense commercial shipping with large freighters passing under the bridge. Powerful waves in north winds with over 200 km of fetch. Bridge structures and pillars to absolutely avoid. International border with Canada. Cold water with hypothermia risk. Combination of waves and current creating unpredictable conditions. Spot reserved for experienced riders.
