Walenstadt is a renowned kitesurf spot on Walensee, an alpine lake situated between the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus. The lake is nestled between high mountains that channel winds, creating reliable thermal conditions in summer. The main winds are the Föhn (southerly wind) and the westerly thermal wind that blows in the afternoon. Walensee is known for its turquoise waters and sometimes demanding conditions with gusts due to the channeling effect between the mountains.
