Tenda Bay is a wild bay on the northeast coast of the Sitia peninsula, north of Kouremenos. More exposed to direct Meltemi than the east-facing beaches, it receives NW to N wind more head-on.
This is a spot for intermediate and advanced riders, with choppier water and a wild atmosphere. Rarely crowded, it offers pristine sailing space in a preserved natural setting.

On the water
Choppy water with waves formed by the onshore Meltemi. Rocky and sandy bottom. Variable depth – shallow areas possible.
Crystal clear water. Moderate current along the coast. Interesting bump & jump conditions in sustained wind.
Parking
Access via dirt track from the main road. Wild parking on the roadside. Road can be rough – a vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended. No facilities on site.
Wind specificities
The Meltemi arrives more directly from NW/NNW than on east-facing beaches like Kouremenos. The bay is more exposed and wind is generally stronger and more consistent, 18-28 knots in summer.
Possible gusts due to surrounding terrain. Wind is more onshore than side-shore on this north coast. Excellent reliability from June to September.
Hazards
Isolated spot with no supervision – never sail alone. Submerged rocks in some areas of the bay. Coastal current possible. Difficult access in case of emergency.
No drinking water or supplies – plan everything in advance. Sun and wind cause rapid dehydration.
