Tofino Surf School

Tofino Surf School is a local, owner-operated surf school run by Jeff Hasse, who has lived and surfed in Tofino for over 20 years. It opened in the winter of 2007 on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Group lessons are designed for beginners, with small groups (typically six students per instructor). Private small-group lessons suit families with children under 12 and couples. Each lesson lasts three hours: students check in at the office at 381 Main Street an hour before, then drive to the Maltby Road parking lot, about nine minutes away, where the instructor waits with the school's yellow van.

Surfboards and wetsuits are provided, with 5 mm wetsuits, booties, gloves and hoods in winter and spring. Instructors hold first aid training and, for those trained in Canada, Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion awards from the Lifesaving Society of Canada. The school also teaches people with disabilities.
