Halifax Surf School

Halifax Surf School teaches surfing at Martinique Beach, near Halifax on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore. The school has exclusive summer access to the beach: Martinique is the province's longest sandy beach, with four kilometres of sand-bottom waves that work at all tides.

Lessons last one hour and are aimed at people who are new to surfing or progressing: the ratio is four students per instructor, on soft-top boards. The price is flat-rate and includes a board and wetsuit for the whole day, so you can keep surfing as long as you like after the lesson.

The school has a large fleet of rental boards and wetsuits on the beach (kids' and XXXL sizes included), and offers summer kids' camps, teen surf days, continuing surf education for women, and nearby cottage rentals. A small seasonal surf shop, 400 m before the beach, sells boards, wetsuits, wax and accessories.

Every day 10 am to 5 pm, May to October, depending on weather and conditions. Surf shop: May to September, 2315 East Petpeswick Road (by appointment in September).
