East Coast Surf School is the surf school at Lawrencetown Beach, near Halifax, Nova Scotia. Run by Jill and Nico Manos, it has been teaching beginners to surf since 2005.
Lawrencetown is a 1.7 km south-facing beach with a gently sloping bottom and waves suited to learning, with four lifeguards on duty. The school runs four beginner lessons a day. Each one-hour lesson includes a surfboard and wetsuit for the rest of the day, so you can keep surfing afterwards and simply leave the gear with the team on the beach.
The ratio is at least one instructor for five students. Children are taught from age 5, female and French-speaking instructors are available on request, and private or semi-private lessons can be arranged. Boards and wetsuits can also be rented by the day.
