Windsurfing Sempachersee

Windsurfing Sempachersee is the windsurf school and board-sports shop of the Caribbean Village, a small cluster of brightly painted houses on the shore of Lake Sempach, right next to Nottwil railway station (canton of Lucerne). Thomi Jäger started the school in 1977, a year after his first attempts at windsurfing; the shop opened in Sursee in 1979 and moved to Nottwil in 1982. Today the site brings together the school, the shop, a beach bar, a fashion boutique and event rooms.

Three names refer to the same address, Bahnhofstrasse 6. Caribbean Village AG is the company that owns the village, the bar and the retail business. Windsurfing Sempachersee is the name under which the school and shop present themselves to the public. Surf + SUP Center Sempachersee GmbH, entered in the Lucerne commercial register in December 2021 and managed by Simon and Thomas Jäger, runs the windsurf, SUP and wing lessons, the test centre, rental and sales. Kitesurfing is not taught here.

Wing is taught in two steps that can be booked separately: learning to handle the wing on a windsurf board without a foil, from 5 knots of wind, then moving on to the foil with the same wing, from 10 knots; these lessons are given to two students or privately, from age 16. The school also runs 90-minute pumpfoil lessons (from age 15, helmet and impact vest compulsory, five participants at most) and, above all, windsurfing: basic courses of four 2.5-hour sessions for adults and children from age 8, evening courses, Jugend+Sport youth courses, taster sessions and private lessons. Board, sail, wetsuit, buoyancy aid and shoes are provided along with a theory booklet, a motorboat provides safety cover and every student receives the Swiss basic windsurfing certificate at the end of the course. Instructors hold J+S or VDWS qualifications. The centre rents out windsurf gear and around forty SUPs, runs guided SUP tours and a group windsurf trip to Sardinia (3 to 11 October 2026). The shop sells Duotone, Naish and Starboard boards, Duotone, Severne and Naish sails, foils, Duotone, Slingshot and Naish wings, Naish, Starboard and Fanatic SUPs and more than a hundred wetsuits; some of the gear can be tried on the lake before buying.
