Description

The Yacht Club du Calaisis is the sailing club of Calais and its region. It was formed in 2009 by the merger of the two historic Calais sailing clubs: the Yachting Club de Calais, which grew out of the Yacht Club du Nord de la France founded in 1952 around Louis Leducq, and the CISPA sailing base, created in 1963 at Fort Risban. The club has nearly 300 members and is affiliated to the French Sailing Federation (no. 01/62020).

It is the resident club of the Tom Souville sailing base in Sangatte, on a 25-hectare freshwater lake, a former gravel pit worked during the construction of the Channel Tunnel. The base has changing rooms with hot showers, a storage hangar, teaching rooms, a 2.3 km footpath around the lake and, in season, a snack bar. For competition team training and the July-August sea courses, the club also uses a beach base at Blériot-Plage.

The offer includes courses by age (5-6 years to adults) and by craft (Optimist, Open Bic, windsurfing, catamaran, funboat), run at Easter, All Saints and in July-August, private lessons, introductory sessions (family sailing, funboat, stand up paddle), training (instructor, FFVoile level 5, boat licence) and groups and schools.

Rental, for independent sailors and best booked in July and August, covers solo or double kayaks, windsurfers, catamarans, Laser dinghies and solo or maxi stand up paddle boards. The club also organises regattas (2026 programme) and has received the FFV "Club engagé" label.
