Spot functioning
Large sandy beach without major dangers. Check the different practice zones carefully by looking at the signs or asking locals.
Information from the local school:
"
The nice days are back, and with them the crowds on the beaches. These natural spaces are freely accessible and should allow everyone to enjoy them safely.
We must not forget that we are the only ones who need 25 m around us to launch our kites and that they are potentially dangerous (falling on pedestrians, crazy kites flying alone on the beach...). In the water, collisions (kite/swimmers) are also possible. This represents a responsibility that should not be underestimated.
Repeated accidents at the same site have resulted in the outright ban of kitesurfing.
At Wissant, we benefit from a swimming area and a Kite area for the summer period. The latter is marked by fixed round buoys and flags (during swimming surveillance hours). Just walk towards Cap Blanc Nez to access it (see sign on the left on the wall when accessing the beach).
It is therefore prohibited to rig, launch and of course navigate in the swimming area! (Beach and sea) Moreover, a bit of walking will be a good warm-up.
Choose your practice hours carefully, be aware that at high tide the beach is reduced, there may be crowds, even outside the swimming area (from 7 m of tidal range).
Don't hesitate to contact local Kite Surf schools if you have any doubts."

Spot opening date
Ouvert toute l'année
Parking
In summer, the parking lot quickly becomes overcrowded. Arrive early or park further away ;-)
Hazards
A shipwreck protrudes about 10 cm from the sandbank in some years at mid-tide (at the boundary between the swimming area and the kite area), not very concerning.
Wind specificities
The ideal wind direction is Southwest with falling tide, to have the wind and current in opposite directions. The current is indeed very strong to the right at rising tide, and very strong to the left at falling tide. The goal is therefore to ride at rising tide with Northeast wind (wind from the right) and the opposite with Southwest wind. The only wind direction where we never ride is southeast, because it's completely offshore and very gusty.
The top sessions are also with very strong South-southwest wind, as we often benefit from a big swell and side-off wind.
