Kite Gruissan Band

Kite Gruissan Band (KGB) is a non-profit association founded in 2004 in Gruissan to bring together kitesurfers and wingfoilers. Its members mostly ride from the wild beach of La Vieille-Nouvelle, 11 km of sand exposed to the tramontane wind, a site the club is committed to protecting (litter, parking, wildlife and plants, World Cleanup Day). The club is affiliated to the FFVL and also offers the French Sailing Federation (FFVoile) licence to its members.

In 2025 the KGB bought a rigid inflatable boat, Lopio29, driven by volunteer skippers. It runs free shuttles for members to La Vieille-Nouvelle, where vehicle access is restricted, and adds to the safety of sessions. Members also get dedicated access to the watersports car park set up by the town near the spot, and a WhatsApp group to arrange sessions. From April to October, a partnership with the Akila Gruissan school includes a supervised riding scheme in the membership fee and gives discounts on lessons, courses, rental and supervised sessions.

The club's year includes training for the Défi Kite race, where it runs a stand, the Divas de la Glisse day for women riders (with the FFVoile and Akila), social days and evenings with introductions and equipment tests, the Equinox Tiki Fest in September, the Gruissan GPS Challenge, the local associations day and logistics support for the Défi Wind. Trips are also organised, for example snowkiting or to Dakhla. The club website sets out the right-of-way and safety rules for the spot.

2026 membership fees, paid online by card through HelloAsso:

• Adult membership: €50
• Youth membership (under 21): €15
• Non-rider membership (volunteers, supporters): €15
• Adult FFVoile licence, on top of membership: €75
• Youth FFVoile licence (under 18), on top of membership: €33
• Adult or youth FFVL licence: at the FFVL rate

Licences are only available to members who have paid their 2026 fee. Club shuttles are free and included in the membership; donations towards the boat are optional. Membership fees and donations give entitlement to a French tax receipt.
