Sail-Factory, kitesurf craftsman in Oberdorf

Sail-Factory (SAIL-FACTORY GmbH) is a sail loft in Oberdorf, in the canton of Nidwalden, next to Stans, that repairs kites and windsurf sails. The workshop handles anything from a small tear to a panel or a sail window that needs replacing, using a range of fabrics and films, and leaves the customer the final say on the repair chosen. An express service gets gear back quickly: bring the sail to the workshop, the repair is discussed on the spot and work starts straight away. The website does not mention wingfoil wings.

Its core business remains boat sails: the workshop designs and builds custom sails (mainsails, jibs and genoas, code zeros, spinnakers and gennakers) for boats on the lakes of central Switzerland, using SailPack software and a digital cutting table, and repairs or alters sails and covers; it also measures sails for certification. It also makes protective tarpaulins and covers, shade sails, rope splices and custom items in sailcloth or leather, such as sail bags or board bags. Seams and workmanship carry a three-year guarantee.

The business grew out of Bohren-Sails, founded in 1976 in Stans by a hang-gliding pioneer to build hang-glider wings; the first paragliders were also designed there. SAIL-FACTORY GmbH was set up in 2013 and then moved into its own premises in Oberdorf; since 1 November 2020 it has been run by Roderick Pitzinger, a professional sailmaker. Almost all production is done in the workshop.
