KITEFUN AG

KITEFUN AG is a kitesurfing school and kite travel operator based in Lucerne. Its founder, Heinz Hrovat, started teaching in 2004; the business became a limited company in 2019 and has its office at Bireggstrasse 36, in the Neubad area. He has since handed over the company but still helps out on the Lake Uri boat shuttle. Lessons follow the standards of the VDWS federation, are taught by VDWS-certified instructors and include the VDWS licence.

In Central Switzerland, the school teaches on Lake Uri from its station at Isleten (municipality of Seedorf, canton of Uri), from June to September. Lessons are given from boats, with no more than four students per instructor and recent equipment: one-day progression lessons for kiters who can already waterstart (VDWS level 3 and above) and, in July, three-day courses for 14 to 18 year olds. Since 2016 KITEFUN has also run a boat shuttle from the Windsurfing Urnersee campsite in Flüelen for independent kiters (VDWS level 5): kites are launched from the boat, with up to five riders per instructor, and a few kitefoil introduction days are coached by riders of the SwissKiteRaceTeam.

The programme also includes landkiting days at Beromünster or Alpnach, snowkiting courses in the Engadine (Bernina Pass, Lake Silvaplana), beginner courses on Lake Como (Cremia, Italy) and guided trips (Sardinia, Brazil, Vietnam, Egypt). The online store sells the school's used equipment at the end of each season, new equipment on quotation and the VDWS international kite insurance. The school supports the Kitesurf Club Schweiz, the national kitesurfers' association, whose membership its staff have held since it was founded.
