Kite Uri (Kiteclub Uri) is the association of the kitesurfers of Lake Uri. It was founded in September 2020 by local kiters, after a spring when the small Isleten spot, on the Isenthalerbach delta (municipality of Seedorf, canton of Uri), had been overrun by riders. In agreement with the security department of the canton of Uri, they chose to cap the number of kiters rather than risk losing the spot. This delta is the only authorised launching and landing area on the shores of Lake Uri.
Since April 2021, only club members and registered day visitors may launch and land at Isleten, and everyone must wear the club lycra or the day-visitor lycra. Visitor places are limited to 20 per day, with no advance booking: registration, payment and the loan of the lycra are handled at the Beachhouse Isleten restaurant. The spot is for experienced kiters only, and club representatives may forbid riding in poor conditions or if a rider's level is not sufficient.
The club asks riders to arrive with their lines already rigged where possible, to pump up the kite only when about to launch, to drift-launch only from the tip of the peninsula and to clear the launch and landing area (the whole peninsula) straight away; teaching, practising and needless kite flying on land are not allowed there. The canton of Uri rules apply as well: the area is closed from 15 June to 31 August, members included (riders must then start from the water, 150 m offshore), the 150 m strip along the shore may only be crossed to launch or land, a 200 m distance must be kept from passenger boats, and no launches are allowed while they manoeuvre at the nearby landing stage.
