JNR Custom Surfboards, kitesurf craftsman in Lagos

JNR Custom Surfboards is the workshop of Saman Christopher, known as Junior, a surfboard shaper based in Lagos, Algarve. Born to a Scottish father and a Sri Lankan mother, he moved to Portugal at 25, shaped his first board 17 years ago and has been shaping full time since 2017.

The workshop builds custom boards (shortboards, twins, bonzers, mid-lengths, nose-rider longboards) in polyester or bamboo/carbon epoxy construction. Allow about two months between order and first session; second-hand boards are also offered for last-minute holiday stays. The boards can be seen at Algarve retailers named on the website (Board Traders Algarve, Pipe Surf Shop).
