Overview

Oyster Bay is a long beach spot on the south coast of the Eastern Cape, between Cape St Francis and Humansdorp. This vast sandy beach offers plenty of space for kitesurfing in a preserved natural setting. The beach is exposed to Atlantic and Indian swells, creating varied conditions from flat in sheltered areas to waves on the exposed beach.

Parking

Access from the R330 via Humansdorp. Parking on the beach or natural ground at the edge. Quiet village with few services — bring your own supplies.

The dominant wind is south-westerly, blowing side-onshore on this south-facing coast. Westerly and WSW winds are also favourable. In summer, thermals reinforce the wind in the afternoon. Wind can be steady on this long, open beach.

Hazards

Shore break can be powerful in big swell. Longshore current. Relatively isolated spot — don't sail alone. Sharks present in these waters. Sun protection essential.
