Overview

Long forbidden, Lake Morat is now authorized for Kitesurfing. The spot is very beautiful, but water access is not very accessible.
 
Spot for Bise (north-east wind) or South-West wind, the bise comes in somewhat more irregularly in patches while the south west is a bit more consistent. The spot is closed during the summer season (June 1 to September 15). The launch area is a lawn located right next to the parking lot.

Spot functioning
The Pantschau is not, as one might think, an ideal starting point. Wind conditions are quite unpredictable near the shore. The spot is therefore recommended for very good kitesurfers only.
  
 The official "LOCAL RULES"
  • The Pantschau as a starting point for kitesurfing is closed from June 1 to September 15.
  • Lake access (entry and exit) is tricky: you have to go through the large rock blocks that form the shore.
  • Appropriate wind directions for kitesurfing are west to south/west and north/east winds. Other winds are almost impractical, even dangerous.
  • Essential condition: being able to go upwind.
  • The areas defined for preparation, storage, launching and landing of the kite must be respected.
  • The 30 meters after entering the water and before exiting the water must be traveled by Bodydrag.
  • Apart from the indicated departure and exit points, there are no other authorized locations.
  • On the Pantschau, many leisure activities are practiced. You must therefore interact with other shore and lake users with respect.
  • Gather the lines and stack the kites on the beach.
 
And then...
 For coexistence to last over time: Please respect the "LOCAL RULES" and don't forget the rules of conduct as a kitesurfer (safety distance on land and on water, self-rescue procedure, etc.)!!!

The parking lot is the Pantschau one, directly next to the spot, it is paid and we advise you not to forget your ticket ;-)
Wind specificities
The spot works with South-West and Bise winds.
In south west the wind comes in a bit better, the bise is more irregular.
Other wind directions don't work.
Hazards
Launching takes place on the grassy area that borders the lake, you should avoid launching too close to the trees or too far from the water's edge, as the wind is often turbulent there. Getting into the water can be a perilous exercise when descending the stone block wall, it is sometimes better to throw the board into the water to get down and then retrieve it. Climbing back onto the lawn is also complicated, especially when waves violently crash against the rocks. Between the lake and the lawn runs a promenade very frequented by pedestrians, please respect them.
