Overview

Bicheno is a kitesurfing spot located on the east coast of Tasmania. This small fishing village is known for its colony of little penguins and its fish-rich waters. The spot offers varied sailing conditions between the sheltered bay and the more exposed beaches. The prevailing wind comes from the northwest to north in summer. Waves are moderate on this east coast. The bottom is a mix of sand and reef depending on the sections. The water is cold but clear. The best season is from November to March. The spot is suitable for intermediate riders. Bicheno has accommodation, restaurants and basic amenities. It is a popular tourist village known for penguin watching at dusk.
