Overview

Brightsand Lake is Saskatchewan's northernmost spot, located in the province's northwest at 632 m altitude. This lake in the boreal forest/prairie transition zone offers unique conditions. Further north and higher than the province's other spots, Brightsand Lake is surrounded by mixed forest (aspen, spruce). The provincial park offers camping and facilities. Shorter season than southern spots (July-September). Wilderness kitesurfing experience in the boreal zone.

Boreal zone lake. Clear, cool water. Sandy bottom — the name "Brightsand" attests to the sand quality. Light to moderate chop. Variable fetch depending on direction. Cool water even in midsummer (16-20°C). Peaceful conditions in a wilderness setting.

Hazards

Surrounding forest creating turbulence and irregular wind. Cold water. Remote from emergency services — very isolated area. Black bears in the boreal forest. Abundant mosquitoes and black flies. Summer thunderstorms.
