Grecia kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot
Greece
Overview
Grecia is a spot located on the south coast of Kythira, a remote Greek island between the Peloponnese and Crete. This wild beach offers a spectacular setting with cliffs and crystal-clear waters, but it's a spot reserved for experienced riders due to potentially dangerous conditions.
The spot works primarily with south and southeast winds, which are the only directions offering safe onshore or side-onshore wind. The dominant Meltemi (N/NW) is OFFSHORE here and pushes toward the Kythira-Crete strait, one of the most dangerous maritime passages in the Mediterranean with violent currents.

Technical details of Grecia spot
The spot works with winds from ESE, SE, SSE, S, SSW.
Spot functioning
The spot works ONLY with south-sector winds (SE to SSW). Check forecasts carefully before sailing — if the Meltemi is forecast, DO NOT sail from this coast. The best season is spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) when southerly winds are more frequent. In summer, the Meltemi dominates and makes this spot dangerous most of the time.

On the water
With onshore southerly wind, the water is choppy with waves reaching 1-2m. The water is exceptionally clear, typical of deep waters around Kythira. The bottom is sandy with rocky areas on the sides. Coastal currents can be significant, especially near rocky headlands.
Parking
Difficult access via narrow, winding roads typical of Kythira. Limited parking on the roadside or on unimproved ground near the beach. A 4x4 may be useful depending on access track conditions. The island sees few tourists so parking is generally available.
Wind specificities
⚠️ WARNING: The Meltemi (N/NW), the dominant summer wind, is completely OFFSHORE on this south coast! It pushes directly toward the Kythira-Crete strait, known for extremely violent currents and dangerous cross-seas.
The spot only works safely with south-sector winds (SE to SSW), which arrive onshore or side-onshore. These conditions are more frequent in spring and autumn, or during summer low-pressure passages. A thermal southerly can develop on some summer afternoons when the Meltemi is weak.
Hazards
🚨 EXTREME DANGER: The Meltemi (N/NW) is OFFSHORE on this coast! A rider carried out will be pushed toward the Kythira-Crete strait, one of the most dangerous passages in the Mediterranean with currents exceeding 3 knots and deadly cross-seas.
Even with southerly wind, conditions can change rapidly. Strong coastal currents near rocky headlands. Submerged rocks on the sides of the beach. No rescue services nearby — Kythira is a remote island with very limited rescue capabilities. Only sail in groups and with waterproof communication devices.
