Spot functioning
From Dokkum or Groningen: follow the N361 to Lauwersoog, then the dyke on the Wadden Sea side (Hoek van de Bant). Launch on the riprap dyke — watch out for the gates (hekken). Wind specificities
NE/E: best directions — free wind from the North Sea, flat water in the Wadden Sea. SW/W: kiteable but less optimal (more offshore wind). N/NNE: ideal flat speed conditions. Most directions work thanks to the open configuration of the Wadden Sea on the north side.
Hazards
Mussel banks (mosselbanken) in places — risk of cutting feet and damaging the board: wear booties. Wooden poles to the right of the dyke (east side), extending ~40m into the water — marked by a small yellow buoy at high tide but invisible at mid-tide. The dyke itself is riprap — difficult water access (no sandy beach). Even at high tide, sometimes ~100m before having enough water. Intermediate level minimum — technical launch on the dyke. Current depending on the tide.
