On the water

Warm water year-round (23-27°C/73-80°F), no wetsuit needed — a lycra is sufficient. The bottom is a mix of rocks, coral reef, and sand. Water is moderately choppy in strong winds. Moderate currents along the coast. Wind can be stronger here than at spots further north in Kihei due to the corridor effect.

Hazards

Coral reef and exposed rocks — wear reef booties. Sea urchins present. Potentially very strong wind in the corridor — can surprise less experienced riders. Currents along the coast. Protected sea turtles (honu) — legal distance required. Sharks (tiger sharks) occasionally reported. Humpback whales from December to April — federal law requires 100 yards distance. Shore access sometimes rocky.
