Overview

Kalafatis is a bay on the east coast of Mykonos, offering a calmer alternative to the windy spots of Ftelia and Korfos Bay. This east/NE-facing bay receives the N/NNE Meltemi side-onshore, with generally more moderate conditions than the north coast thanks to partial protection. The sandy beach is popular for water sports with some rental centers. Kalafatis suits intermediate riders seeking less extreme conditions than other Mykonos spots.

The N/NNE Meltemi arrives side-onshore on this NE-facing bay. Wind is partially attenuated by Mykonos' relief to the north and west. Typical strength of 15-22 knots, less intense than Ftelia or Korfos. More moderate and accessible conditions. Season from June to September.

Hazards

Wind can build to 22+ knots. Cohabitation with swimmers and jet-skis. Some rocks in the bay. Strong sun exposure.
