McKevlin's Surf Shop

McKevlin's Surf Shop is South Carolina's longest-established surf shop. It was opened in the fall of 1965 by Dennis McKevlin and his son Ted, one of the area's pioneer surfers, and is still family-owned. It is now at 8 Center Street in Folly Beach, near Charleston.

The store carries hundreds of new and used shortboards, mid-lengths and longboards, available in store only, along with wetsuits, leashes, traction pads, wax, fins, skimboards, bodyboards, eyewear, bags and apparel. It does not sell mass-produced pop-out boards and champions custom-shaped surfboards. A consignment program lets you sell a used board.

McKevlin's also rents surfboards and bodyboards on a first-come basis, with no reservations. For lessons, the shop recommends local Folly Beach surf schools.
