Wings & Waves

Wings & Waves is a school and shop based in Bayswater on Auckland's North Shore. It describes itself as the oldest operating kitesurfing school in Auckland, and also teaches paragliding.

Kitesurf teaching is mostly private: a half-day stage 1 introduction (safety briefing, kite handling on land then in the water), a stage 2 lesson, hourly private lessons for riders who are not yet independent, and kite foiling lessons with New Zealand kite foil champion Lukas Walton-Keim. Board, kites from 2 to 16 sqm and harness are supplied.

The site is picked each day according to the wind: Shoal Bay in Bayswater for south-westerlies, Cheltenham Beach for easterlies, Point Chevalier for westerly and north-westerly winds. The school is certified by WorkSafe NZ.

The shop imports and sells kite and foil gear (Ozone and Naish are mentioned) and services and repairs equipment, including warranty work.

Lessons by appointment, booked by phone or email. The day's site is confirmed in the morning, meeting at 9.30 am.
