MAKAI Beach Kiteschool

MAKAI is a beach club on Kennemerstrand beach in IJmuiden with a restaurant, events space, shop and watersports school. The kitesurf school is a recognised training location of the Dutch Watersport Association (KNWV) and has long worked with the NKV, the Dutch kitesurfing association; all its instructors are certified and trained in-house with a shared method.

The programme runs over five lessons: safety and kite control with the power kite, body-dragging and relaunching from the water, first waterstarts, controlled riding, then independence, including riding upwind. Students receive an internationally recognised diploma (KNWV is recognised by VDWS) that lets them rent gear anywhere in the world. After the lessons the club offers rental and buying advice.

It also runs progression clinics (Beyond the Basics), downwinders, surfing, kids' surf camps, equipment rental and a shop.
