Longsands Surf School

Longsands Surf School teaches surfing on Longsands beach in Tynemouth, near Newcastle. The school began in 2009 running lessons from a van at the bottom of the Longsands ramp, then moved in 2015 into the Surf Shack at the end of the promenade.

It offers two-hour beginner lessons (age 6 and up, equipment included), improver coaching, private lessons, surf parties and a kids' surf club on Saturdays and Sundays at 11am. Group sessions usually run at 11am and 2pm, at weekends, daily in school holidays and midweek when conditions allow.

Instructors are RLSS-qualified beach lifeguards, certified by the ISA or Surfing England, and DBS checked. The school also hires boards and wetsuits on the beach without booking, and runs an online shop for gear and apparel.

Group sessions usually at 11am and 2pm, depending on conditions; kids' surf club Saturdays and Sundays at 11am.
