Surfschule Petersen is the long-established windsurf school on Langeoog, an East Frisian island in the North Sea. Founded in 1978, it has been run since the start as a family business by sports teacher Petersen, who brought windsurfing from southern Germany to the North Sea. Its centre is at Polderweg 30, in a house that also holds the surf'n'sleep hostel and the BelAir bar.
You can learn windsurfing, wave surfing, kitesurfing, wing surfing and stand up paddling. Lessons take place, depending on the weather, in standing-depth lagoons at Flinthörn beach or in the waves at the Gerk-sin-spoor access; video lessons complement the practice indoors. Equipment includes beginner and advanced windsurf sails (Severne, Starboard), Ozone and Flysurfer kites, and soft-top and hard surfboards from 6'0" to 9'0". Kids' equipment and bodyboards are available. Guests of the hostel get 10% off courses.
Registration every day at 8 pm at the surf centre. The season runs from June to September; the 2026 season opened on Ascension Day. The winter address is in Freiburg.
