Surfland Oualidia

Surfland is the surf school of the Oualidia lagoon, founded in 1991 by Laurent Miramon and described ever since as Morocco's first surf school. It sits halfway between the village and the lagoon, on a stretch of water its founder compares to a natural wave pool: the swell comes in through a narrow pass and reaches the beach filtered, which keeps the spot rideable in almost any conditions and safe for beginners.

The place runs as a camp: dormitory tents sleeping six, separate shower and toilet blocks for boys and girls, a dining tent, a games room, and round-the-clock supervision by instructors and camp leaders. It takes children from the age of 7 and teenagers, from Morocco and from Europe, with two water sessions a day, morning and afternoon, and activities in the evening. Lessons are also open to people not staying at the camp, and adult stays are arranged with the hotels of Oualidia. Alongside surfing it offers stand up paddle and outrigger canoe.

In 1996 Surfland launched its « classes de mer » school trips, which combine riding with field study: a shoreline survey in two rocky coves 400 m from the base, a visit to the Portuguese caves and the fishing harbour, and the ecology of the lagoon. The centre states it is approved by the cultural cooperation service of the French embassy, and names Quiksilver and Pukas among its partners. No yearly calendar is published. The school announces its courses as they come on its Facebook page: in September 2026 it listed two weeks in October 2026, the 17th to the 24th full and the 24th to the 31st still available.
