Hanalei Surf School

Hanalei Surf School is a surf and paddle school in Hanalei Bay, on the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii. It is run by professional surfer Evan Valiere and his family, who live in Hanalei.

Surf and stand-up paddle lessons, private or in groups, suit beginners as well as more advanced surfers. Sessions last 90 minutes, between 8 am and 3:30 pm: a short beach briefing, with rash guard and board provided, on paddling and standing up, before heading into the water. Instructors include island pro surfers such as Drew Irons and Evan Valiere.

The school also rents surfboards (soft-top or hard) with leash and wax, and paddleboards with leash and paddle, so students can keep practicing after the lesson. It is linked to Hanalei Charters, which runs boat tours along the Na Pali Coast.

90-minute lessons between 8 am and 3:30 pm.
