Upwind Escola e Clube de Vela

Upwind is a windsurf, kitesurf and SUP school and club based at Praia Seca on the Araruama lagoon (Rio de Janeiro state), operating since 2004 according to its website. The site's blog covers the Brazilian windsurf circuit and the organisation of group trips to the Défi Wind.

Teaching is organised in three levels (I, II and III) and follows the Starboard, FBVM, ABETA, FEVERJ, ABWS and ABSUP standards, with no initial equipment investment required. Lessons are booked by e-mail or phone.

A shop (the "Loja Upwind" page) lists prices in reais for accessories, harnesses, lycras, kites and mast extensions. The website also offers accommodation for practitioners: suites with breakfast (air conditioning, balcony, hammock) and a 20-bed athletes' dormitory built for the 2010 world championships, booked by e-mail or phone with advance payment and a two-day minimum at weekends.
