Alternative Kite

Alternative Kite is a kitesurf and wingfoil school operating since 2011 in Pernambuca, in the municipality of Arraial do Cabo (Rio de Janeiro state), on the Araruama lagoon. Its website says it was founded by Guilherme Carvalho, a kitesurfer and wingfoiler since 2008 and an instructor registered with the CREF.

All lessons are one-to-one (one student per instructor), with full equipment and a vest included. There are two formats: a complete 8-hour course spread over the available conditions, aimed at beginners, and hourly lessons for those who already have a base. Students must be able to swim and be at least 12, with parental authorisation and supervision.

The school uses the private lagoon of a condominium, which is shallow, wave-free and free of boat traffic. The ideal season runs from July to January with steady wind. A support boat is available as an option, and the business also offers private boat tours (up to 4 people) and kayak rental. A kite house is announced as under construction.
