Elafonisi Extreme Sports (Elafonisi Kite Club)

Elafonisi Extreme Sports (Elafonisi Kite Club) is a water and air sports centre on Elafonisi beach, in south-west Crete (Kissamos). The website claims more than 10 years of experience and presents kitesurfing as its core activity, alongside paratriking, paragliding, jet ski, kayak, gyrocopter flights and boat rental.

For kitesurfing the club offers lessons (beginner and intermediate levels) and equipment rental, plus SUP for non-windy days. Beginners learn in a small sandy bay in front of the station where the water is waist deep; the large kitesurf lagoon next to it is no more than 1 m deep. An area with a kiosk, fresh-water rinse and gear check is available at the spot for 10 EUR per day.

According to the site, the location is exposed to a steady north-west wind without gusts; in summer thermal winds give force 4 to 5 Beaufort almost daily, and spring brings good wave conditions. Elafonisi is about 75 km (1.5 hours) from Chania. This is a multi-activity centre: kite is only part of what is offered.
