Yacht Club Banyuls

Yacht Club Banyuls is a non-profit association founded in 1959, described as the first sailing club in the Pyrénées-Orientales to join the French Sailing Federation (FFVoile); it is approved by the French youth and sports authorities and its base flies the École Française de Voile flag. It sits on the central beach of Banyuls-sur-Mer, avenue du Fontaulé. Sailing takes place in the bay, between Cap Béar and Cap l'Abeille, alongside the Cerbère-Banyuls marine nature reserve; in south-easterly winds the bay also draws funboarders. The team is made up of a base manager, who is technical director, and instructors holding the CQP sailing instructor certificate.

For board sports, the club gives private wingfoil lessons for one or two people, with helmet, wetsuit and harness provided; some sailing experience is recommended. Riders at FFVoile level 3 can hire a 140-litre F-One wingfoil board with 3.5 and 5 m² wings and an F-One foil, or a 122-litre Starboard windfoil board fitted with a foil. Windsurfing is taught in three- or five-day group courses from age 12, with up to seven people, or in private lessons; funboard is taught in private lessons. The club also rents daggerboard boards from 160 to 220 litres and funboards from 84 to 133 litres, in a supervised sailing area within sight of the club.

The rest of its activity is sailing: Optimist, Fun Boat and catamaran courses, introductions on a 6-metre keelboat, a year-round Optimist sports school and racing. The club also hosts groups, rents paddles and offers equipment storage.
