Magic Sunset is a kitesurfing and wing foil school at Pont-Levis in Sète, on the Étang de Thau lagoon. It was set up by Hugo, who teaches there as coach: he has been kitesurfing since the sport’s early days some thirty years ago, competed in its first events and was editor-in-chief of Kitesurf Magazine for many years, and he cites around fifteen years of coaching experience.
The school welcomes students opposite the spot, and its boat leaves from the foot of the base to reach the riding area in under ten minutes, on flat water suited to learning. Lessons are given in very small groups of two or three, and each student wears a BB Talkin’ radio with a microphone, so they can talk to the instructor during the session. Kitesurfing is taught to students aged 9 to 75, from beginner level to advanced coaching (filmed sessions, jumps, strapless) and kitefoiling.
Wing foil lessons start on the sand and continue on the water with boat and radio support, using F-One equipment; the school displays the F-One Official Pro School label and also uses Manera gear. It also offers a foil simulator towed alongside the boat, wake foil sessions, supervised riding with boat drop-off and supervised rental. Equipment and accessories (wetsuit, harness, helmet, buoyancy vest, booties) are provided, and the school has free parking, a shower and toilets. Hugo also runs coaching trips abroad (Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa).
