DVG Shapes, kitesurf craftsman in Kommetjie, Cape Town

DVG Shapes is a surfboard shaping workshop in Kommetjie, Cape Town, founded in 1997 by shaper David (Dave) van Ginkel, who grew up in his father's surfboard workshop and studied engineering to better understand shape, foils, rockers and their effect on speed.

The workshop hand-makes custom surfboards to the customer's specifications, with a range of base models (all rounder, funstar, speed fish, charger, performance guns, among others). Each year Dave also shapes big-wave guns for Europe at the Pukas factory in Olatu, in Spain's Basque Country.
