kitesurf, windsurf and wingfoil spots in Poland

A thirty-five-kilometre strip of sand between the Baltic and a shallow bay, holiday villages packed with schools, shifting dunes: Poland has become one of the most dynamic kitesurfing countries in Europe.

134 spots listed, across 12 regions. Rideable days are computed from two full years of readings (2024 and 2025), spot by spot.

Poland: an overview

A passion born in a few short years

Few countries have seen board sports grow as fast as Poland. Within a generation, kitesurfing went from a curiosity to a mass sport, driven by a large young population, a suitable coastline and prices long more affordable than in western Europe. Windsurfing has a long tradition here, and wing foiling now finds an ideal playground.

In summer, the Polish coast turns into a huge board sports holiday camp. Schools number in the dozens, campsites overflow with vans and boards, and you meet riders from all over the country and, increasingly, from all over Europe.

The Hel Peninsula and Puck Bay

Almost everything happens on the Hel Peninsula. This narrow strip of land, lined with pines and dunes, juts out into the sea, separating the open Baltic on one side from Puck Bay on the other. The bay is shallow, with a sandy bottom and calm water: one of the best learning basins in Europe. You can stand a long way out, progress quickly, and within minutes cross the road from flat water to Baltic waves.

Beyond Hel

The Polish coast also offers big open-Baltic beaches, national parks with spectacular dunes and, further west, lagoons and lakes. Inland, the lake districts attract a more local, more peaceful kind of riding.

The best regions

The Hel Peninsula

The heart of Polish board sports. Five villages lined up between two seas, a shallow bay ideal for learning and a holiday atmosphere that lasts all summer.

Puck Bay

The sheltered water behind the peninsula, shallow and calm, with spots also reachable from the mainland coast. The country's great training ground.

The Pomeranian coast

From Władysławowo to Łeba, big open-Baltic beaches, waves in onshore wind and national parks with shifting dunes.

West Pomerania

Towards the German border, seaside resorts, lagoons and large lakes, quieter than the Hel Peninsula.

The lake districts

Masuria and the inland reservoirs offer local, freshwater riding far from the sea.

By region

The spots not to miss

  • Władysławowo (Pomerania)

    Pomorskie

At the base of the Hel Peninsula, a seaside resort and fishing port. The gateway to the peninsula, with access to both sides: the Baltic and the bay.

  • Chałupy (Hel Peninsula)

    Pomorskie

The number one board sports destination in Poland. A shallow bay, schools at every turn and a summer campsite atmosphere that has become legendary.

  • Kuźnica (Hel Peninsula)

    Poméranie

A quieter village in the middle of the peninsula, with large teaching centres and room on the water. Ideal for progressing away from Chałupy's buzz.

  • Jastarnia (Hel Peninsula)

    Pomorskie

A fishing village turned resort, facing Puck Bay. Flat water, sandy bottom and steady wind in spring and autumn, once the crowds have gone.

  • Hel (Hel Peninsula)

    Pomorskie

At the end of the sand spit, where the peninsula meets the sea. An end-of-the-world setting, pine forests and beaches on both sides.

  • Puck (Puck Bay)

    Not found

A small historic town on the mainland shore of the bay. Quiet access to shallow water, away from the peninsula's bustle.

  • Dębki (Pomerania)

    Poméranie

A big open-Baltic beach at a river mouth, backed by forest. Waves in onshore wind, and a wilder feel than the peninsula villages.

  • Łeba (Pomerania)

    Poméranie

At the gates of a national park famous for its shifting dunes, a seaside resort between sea and lakes. Almost Saharan landscapes on the edge of the Baltic.

  • Międzywodzie (West Pomerania)

    Zachodniopomorskie

A village whose name means "between the waters", squeezed between the Baltic and a lagoon. You pick your water according to the wind, far from the crowds.

  • Lake Miedwie (West Pomerania)

    Voïvodie de Poméranie occidentale

A large, clear lake near Szczecin. Local, peaceful freshwater riding, surrounded by countryside.

Good to know

  • Seasons: summer is the busiest season, not the windiest. Spring and autumn often bring better conditions, with colder water.
  • Crowds: in July and August, the Hel Peninsula is very busy, on the water and on the single road that serves it. Ride within the designated zones.
  • Shallow water: Puck Bay is ideal for learning, but keep an eye on the depth and on navigation channels.
  • Protected areas: Słowiński National Park and several Natura 2000 sites regulate access and riding.
  • Wetsuit: the Baltic stays cool for much of the year.
