On the water
St. Lawrence estuary with 3-5m tidal range. Enormous tidal flats characteristic of Kamouraska. Cold brackish water (10-14°C in summer). The wharf allows launching at high tide. At low tide, water recedes over a kilometre. Sandy to muddy bottom. NE wind has excellent fetch across the estuary.
Hazards
Very extensive tidal flats — easy to get trapped far from shore on rising tide. Deep mud in places. Tidal currents. Cold water — thick wetsuit mandatory. Avoid the wharf and its infrastructure while riding. Frequent fog on the estuary.
