This charming resort town is nestled between Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix, connected by a channel. Charlevoix Beach offers access to Lake Michigan with a west exposure, catching the prevailing west and northwest winds that generate waves. The historic lighthouse and distinctive Mushroom Houses characterize this picturesque spot.

Sandy bottom with gradual slope. Longshore currents possible in strong winds. Calmer conditions in east winds (offshore).

Hazards

Longshore and rip currents possible in strong west winds. Cold Lake Michigan water with hypothermia risk. Recreational boat traffic near the channel leading to Lake Charlevoix — avoid the channel. Violent thunderstorms possible in summer with lightning risk. Busy tourist beach in summer — watch for swimmers. Commercial shipping offshore on Lake Michigan.
