Overview

North End is the main kitesurfing spot on Tybee Island, Georgia's only barrier island accessible by road, located east of Savannah. The north end of the island features a wide sandy beach facing the Atlantic, with direct ocean access. It's the most popular kitesurfing spot in Georgia, benefiting from regular northeast and southeast winds. Tide plays a significant role — at low tide, vast sandbars are exposed, providing spacious launch areas.

On the water

Atlantic Ocean with waves and tidal currents. Conditions vary significantly with the tide — flat water on sandbars at low tide, waves at high tide. Tidal current can be strong, especially near the Savannah River mouth to the north. Warm water from May to October. Sandy bottom with shifting sandbar areas.

Hazards

Strong tidal currents, especially near the Savannah River mouth. Significant tidal range (about 6-9 feet). Cargo ship and commercial vessel traffic in the Savannah navigation channel. Sharks present in coastal waters. Jellyfish frequent in summer. Thunderstorms possible in spring and summer.
