Hobie Beach is THE iconic kitesurfing spot in Miami, located on the Rickenbacker Causeway between Miami and Key Biscayne. Nicknamed "Kite Beach Miami," it's the most popular spot in South Florida and one of the most well-known in the world. The bay side (Biscayne Bay) spot offers shallow, protected waters ideal for all levels. The easterly trade winds blow side-shore across the bay, providing regular flat water conditions from November to May. International vibes guaranteed with riders from around the world, several kite schools and a lively social scene.

On the water

The Biscayne Bay water body is shallow with a sandy bottom, allowing standing in most of the riding area. In easterly trade winds, conditions are flat to lightly choppy — perfect for learning and freestyle. The water is warm year-round (73-86°F), boardshorts possible from March to November. The tide influences depth — at low tide, some areas become very shallow. The riding space is wide with the Miami skyline as a backdrop.

Hazards

The spot is very crowded — watch for other riders, beginners and kite lines during launch/landing. Strictly respect designated kite and swimming zones. Tidal currents exist in the causeway channel. Watch for stingrays in the sand (stingray shuffle). Parking along the causeway is regulated and paid. Do not ride under power lines. Boat traffic in the main Biscayne Bay channel.
