On the water

River water body with flat to choppy conditions. Fresh and cool water (14-20°C/57-68°F), a 3/2 wetsuit is recommended. Sandy and rocky bottom in places. River current is constant (3-5 km/h) and must be accounted for. Thermal winds create short chop when wind opposes current. Large riding area in the gorge.

Hazards

Constant river current that can carry riders downstream. Very strong winds (25-40 knots) frequent with gusts — the gorge amplifies the wind. Commercial barge and recreational boat traffic. Submerged rocks in some areas. Driftwood and debris in the river. Winds can be turbulent near canyon walls. Cold water early and late in the season.
