Coffee Bay Point is a kite spot on the Wild Coast, one of South Africa's wildest and most pristine coastlines. This rocky point offers committed sailing conditions in a spectacular natural setting. Subtropical waters are warmed by the Agulhas Current (20-24°C). The spot is isolated and only suitable for experienced riders who can handle currents and ocean conditions.

On the water

Open ocean with south swell that can exceed 2 metres. Subtropical conditions with warm water (20-24°C). Noticeable coastal currents along the point. Rocky bottom near the point, sandy in the adjacent bay. Quality waves for wave riding.

Parking

Access via dirt road from Coffee Bay village. Informal parking near the point. Road in poor condition, 4x4 vehicle recommended. No developed tourist infrastructure.

Wind specificities

The dominant kite wind is the south-west (SW), blowing side-onshore on this south-facing coast. South (S) wind generates onshore swell. North-east (NE) winds blow offshore and are not recommended for kitesurfing. The Wild Coast can experience rapid weather changes. Main season: October to March.

Hazards

Isolated spot with no rescue nearby. Strong currents along the point. Rocky bottom with sea urchins. Powerful south swell. Sharks present (bull sharks and Zambezi sharks). Buddy system mandatory. Rapid weather changes on the Wild Coast.
