Overview
Muizenberg Beach is the long white sand beach stretching several kilometers along False Bay. It's the birthplace of South African surfing and a very popular spot for learning kitesurfing thanks to its forgiving conditions: steady onshore wind, shallow water, and sandy bottom. The beach is wide and offers plenty of space for rigging and launching. It's one of Cape Town's best spots for beginners.

The spot works with winds from E, ESE, SE, SSE.
Spot functioning
Works in SE wind, from September to April. The spot is ideal at mid-tide and low tide when the beach is wide and water shallow. At high tide, beach space reduces. The wind is often lighter than at the Corner — perfect for beginners. Many kite schools operate on the beach.

On the water
Small gentle waves on sandy bottom, ideal for beginner surfing. The water is shallow far from shore, reassuring for kite beginners. Water at 16-20°C in summer, 3/2 wetsuit recommended. The water gets choppy in strong wind but remains safe.
Parking
Large free parking along Beach Road. Also paid parking near the beachfront. The area gets very busy in summer, arrive early on weekends. Watch for car break-ins — leave nothing visible.
Wind specificities
The dominant wind is SE (Cape Doctor), blowing onshore from October to March. The wind is generally steady and less gusty than at the Corner as the beach is more exposed. Typical strength 15-25 knots. The thermal wind picks up in the early afternoon. In winter, NW can blow but usually brings rain.
Hazards
Sharks: great white sharks present in False Bay — follow Shark Spotter alerts. Surfers and swimmers: very busy area, keep your distance. Occasional jellyfish (bluebottles). Car break-ins.
