The estuary offers sheltered flat water conditions, while the ocean-side beach provides access to wave conditions. In the estuary: brackish, flat and shallow water. Ocean side: sea water 18-22°C in summer, waves possible. Wetsuit recommended. Sandy bottom on both sides.

Parking

Parking in the village of Kenton-on-Sea, near the beach and river mouth. Access from the R72.

Wind specificities

The dominant wind is south-westerly, side-onshore on this south-facing coast. Westerly and WSW winds are also favourable. The estuary can channel the wind differently from the open beach. In summer, south-westerly thermals are regular in the afternoon.

Hazards

Strong current at the river mouth, especially on outgoing tide. Shore break on the ocean side. Sharks present in these waters. Don't sail alone. Check tide conditions before sailing in the estuary.
