Agia Anna Evia Greece kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot
Greece
Overview
Agia Anna is a spot on the west coast of northern Evia (Euboea), facing the North Euboean Gulf. This long beach benefits from the Venturi effect created by the channel between Evia island and the Greek mainland, with mountains on both sides channeling and accelerating the wind.
The North Euboean Gulf runs NW-SE, and the Meltemi is channeled through this corridor as NW/NNW wind, arriving side-onshore on this west coast. A reliable summer spot with consistent wind and relatively flat water thanks to the channel's protection.

On the water
Semi-enclosed water of the North Euboean Gulf. With dominant NW/NNW wind, fetch is limited by the channel width (10-15 km), creating small short chop. Sandy bottom with progressive depth. Moderate current in the channel, stronger at narrow passages. Clear, relatively warm water in summer (24-26°C).
Parking
Parking available along the coastal road that runs beside the beach. Parking spaces on unimproved areas by the roadside. Access from the main road in northern Evia. In summer, the coast can be busy with Athenian holidaymakers but parking generally remains sufficient.
Wind specificities
The dominant wind is the Meltemi channeled through the North Euboean Gulf, arriving from NW/NNW. The Venturi effect between Evia's mountains (peaking at 1743m at Mount Dirfys) and the mainland mountains accelerates the wind from 15 to 25 knots in summer. Wind is typically stronger in the afternoon with thermal reinforcement.
With W/WSW wind (rarer, linked to low-pressure systems), the water is directly onshore with slightly more chop. East-sector winds are offshore — do not sail in these conditions.
Hazards
Current in the channel, particularly at narrow passages. Wind can suddenly increase with the Venturi effect. Some rocks at the beach extremities. Commercial shipping in the channel — stay well clear of shipping lanes. In strong Meltemi (>25 knots), conditions can become demanding even in the protected channel.
