The Tsawwassen spot is located near the BC Ferries terminal at the southern tip of the Tsawwassen peninsula in the Fraser River delta. The spot faces southwest toward Boundary Bay and the Gulf Islands. Thermal SW and W winds are reliable in summer. Significant tidal zone with large mudflats at low tide.
Flat to choppy water in the bay. Sand and mud bottom. Very tide-dependent: at low tide, vast mudflats are exposed and the launch can be far. Best at mid-rising or high tide. Few waves thanks to island protection.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Very frequent BC Ferries traffic — NEVER ride in the ferry channel. Dangerous mudflats at low tide (risk of getting stuck). Tidal currents in the channel. Restricted navigation zone around the terminal. Cold water.
